Not your average success advice

There’s no shortage of success frameworks out there. Whether you’re after personal development or career advice, there’s a book, a blog and a podcast ready and waiting. So, why listen to my voice?

Great question. To start with, there’s a couple of things I’m not:

What you won’t get

Dude bro

These are 28-45 year old white men in the US who’ve left comfortable careers to explain how you can optimise, life-hack and growth-hack your way to success. Their wives take care of the mental and domestic labour that actually give them an optimised life while they list their supplement regimes and Notion boards.

#Bossbabe

Girl power! Mojo! Here’s where you’ll find pink and glitter, cursive scripted Canva designs, organised planners, and the kind of #empowerment that makes you feel ill but you’re not sure why. Optional: positive psychology qualification.

Western guru who found spirituality

This is a gender-inclusive, age-agnostic category. What ties them together are: they’re white people who’ve found some form of Eastern spirituality - yoga, meditation, Buddhism, etc - and now consider themselves enlightened. They have no worries about appropriating thousands of years of indigenous or ancient wisdom for their coaching programmes, but they’re still quite… lost.

What you will get

Pragmatic, passionate advice to help you make sense of work and life.

I’ll help you with things like:

  • Decision-making

  • Personal growth

  • Life planning

  • Productivity

  • Change

  • Career

Importantly, I offer tools and advice to help you challenge the the bullshit in your life - whatever that is. Social bullshit, systemic bullshit, corporate bullshit… or possibly (probably) your own bullshit. But without the oily film of a slick guru.

I also write thoughtful pieces on society, culture, technology, media, politics and feminism, because I’m like that.

If you don’t want to take productivity advice from a dude-bro, and would rather get unfiltered insight from someone who can write an email with one hand and sip coffee with the other, while simultaneously:

  • Getting something in the slow cooker for dinner

  • Yelling at a wanker politician on the radio, and

  • Signing a school permission slip

… All while contemplating the nature of things, the increasing disconnection of late-stage capitalism to meaningful labour… and how to increase conversion rates on a new programme… well, I might be the one for you.

What you should know

I’m an open-minded person who likes informed debate. However, these issues are not up for debate.

  • We do not live in a meritocracy. We live in a white-centric, ableist, classist, patriarchal world that makes it significantly more difficult for anyone who doesn’t fit a narrow mould to succeed.

  • Trans rights are human rights. There are more than two sexes, and there are more than two genders. Anti-trans propaganda is scientifically inaccurate, and dangerous. Gender diversity is a fact.

  • Climate change is real, and we’re totally fucked if we don’t get our act together.
